At Nyth y Deryn, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive — no matter what challenges they've faced along the way. We support secondary-age pupils who need extra help with their social, emotional, and behavioural wellbeing, offering a safe, nurturing space where they can rebuild confidence, develop new skills, and rediscover a love of learning.

Our name means "the bird's nest" — and that's exactly what we aim to be: a place of safety and care, where young people are supported to find their strength and, in time, fly on to new opportunities.

Our Approach / Ein Hathroniaeth

No two pupils are the same, so no two journeys at Nyth y Deryn look the same either. We work closely with each young person to build a bespoke, personalised learning plan shaped around their individual needs, strengths, and goals.

Our curriculum follows the Curriculum for Wales, so pupils continue to receive a broad, balanced, and ambitious education. Small teaching groups mean every pupil benefits from close, individualised support from a dedicated teacher and teaching assistant.

We don't see education and wellbeing as separate things — they go hand in hand. Academic progress matters here, and so does personal growth. We want our pupils to leave us not just with stronger qualifications, but with greater self-belief, resilience, and the life skills to carry them forward — in school and beyond.

We're an inclusive community where pupils feel safe, seen, and supported — and where they're given the space and encouragement to grow into the best version of themselves.
